Brisbane Airport is situated close to the city and just north of the Brisbane River. The airport has Moreton Bay as its Eastern boundary. Many flights take off and land from over the bay which makes for some quite spectacular viewing. Because the airport is centrally located it is very easy to find a nearby place to stay and within easy reach. If you don’t have a friend to pick you up the easiest way to get around is via the airtrain. There are train stations at both the domestic and international terminals. The airtrain will deliver you to Roma St Station in the heart of Brisbane city and from here you can connect to the local and interstate rail network, or transfer to a coach for a local or interstate trip. Obviously, there are also a million taxis available at the airport to take you wherever your heart desires.
The motorway leading to the airport is currently undergoing a major upgrading which is resulting in many delays when the traffic is busy in the area. At present this is most of the day so the airtrain option is very attractive. The Gateway arterial Rd and the Gateway bridge which both ajoin the airport, are both being widened to a minimum of 4 lanes in each direction. This will be great when it is finished but until then chaos reigns. As you can probably guess, parking at the airport is expensive so you should investigate the nearby park and ride options. Andrews airport parking is an ideal place to leave you car in a secure lock up and they will bus you to the terminal of your choice and pick you up again on your return.
