A Rainbow Beach holiday can combine the attraction of a great surfing beach, a huge calm water waterway, or a tour to world heritage-listed Fraser Island. Rainbow Beach is the northernmost region of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and is only about two hours’ drive, north of Brisbane. The local region is part of the Great Sandy National Park and has plenty of sensational beauty spots. It is a four-wheel drive enthusiast paradise with Teewah Beach and Double Island Point to the south and Fraser Island to the north. The town of Tin Can Bay lies nearby on the Great Sandy Straits and has a fantastic new marina. There is a pod of wild dolphins that often visit the local boat ramp for a free handout. The city of Hervey Bay also lies to the north and during the winter and spring months, thousands of humpback whales come here as part of their northern migration. A large fleet of whale-watching charter boats caters to the tens of thousands of tourists who come here every year to witness this unique event. Rainbow Beach is at the very center of this fabulous region and is the ideal place for your next holiday.
On a local level, Rainbow Beach is well-prepared for your visit. Great accommodation for couples or the whole family is available here. Backpackers come here in droves to start their tour of Fraser Island and there are several large backpacker hostels in town. You can stay in the town or right on the beachfront. There are tours operating daily to the nearby attractions like Fraser Island or you can hire a four-wheel drive vehicle and drive yourself to see the sights.
The beach is Rainbow Beach’s major attraction. It has fantastic surfing breaks and also beautiful scenery like the colored sands and Double Island Point. The beach is mostly open for four-wheel drive vehicles and you can drive to Noosa via the beach if you wish. If you choose to do this you must take notice of the tide times as the beach will be closed to traffic for two hours on either side of the high tide. The local beaches are also a fisherman’s paradise and many anglers come to Rainbow Beach for their annual holidays. Why not join them and make Rainbow Beach your next holiday destination?
