The City of Cairns: Top Must-see Attractions for Every Traveller

Top Must See Attractions In Cairns

Cairns is a city found in the state of Queensland, Australia. It is perhaps the most popular of all of the state’s cities, rivaling Brisbane and Gold Coast. There is a lot to do in Cairns, and lots of attractions to be seen.

If you have never visited before, then it might seem somewhat daunting to you. After all, if you don’t know a lot about the city, how can you see everything that’s worth seeing?

Don’t worry though, this post has you covered. Here are the top must-see attractions for every traveler to Cairns:

Arranging Transportation

Cairns has a pretty efficient public transport system. However, relying on public transport can be irritating, because you don’t have as much freedom as you would if you rented a car. If you are visiting, then consider renting your own car. You can arrange a cheap car rental at Cairns Airport as little as a day before your visit. That said, however, it’s good to give the rental agency you plan on working with a little notice before you hire them. Giving them notice gives them more time to get the perfect car for you and your travels clean and ready.

1.    Cairns Aquarium

Cairns Aquarium is one of the best in all of Australia, and that’s saying a lot. You can order tickets for the aquarium online, or at the door. You are usually able to get a discount when you order online, though. If you are going to be visiting with family and friends then you can usually save even more money by getting a family package, which gives you a discount on individual tickets. Cairns Aquarium is somewhere you have to go if you are in the city and have an interest in marine life (which Australia is famous for).

2.    Fitzroy Island

Fitzroy Island is a small island that’s located near Cairns. If you are interested in fishing, and marine life, and beautiful islands, then you’ll love Fitzroy Island. You can charter a boat there from the harbor in Cairns. Bear in mind that if you are chartering a boat, you will also probably be able to charter one that offers a fishing experience. Fishing in Australia is amazing since there are so many rare and interesting fish that can be caught there. Make sure you hire a professional fishing charter if you want to go.

3.    Paronella Park

Paronella Park is an incredible attraction and has to be seen when you are in Cairns. It was built nearly a century ago by a Spanish immigrant, who sailed to Australia for a better life. The entire park is built in the Spanish style. There are various different things to be seen there, from wildlife to waterfalls and flowers. If you intend on visiting, then make sure that you get a map of the park so that you can see everything first. Not getting a map could lead to you getting lost or missing things.

4.    Rusty’s Markets

If you are a fan of fresh, farm-grown produce, then you will love Rusty’s Markets. It is an indoor farmers’ market that has been running since the 1970s. It is visited by thousands of people every time that it’s open. There are a lot of street-food stalls and food vendors located there, too. It’s a great place to stop off and get some lunch when walking around and exploring Cairns. Do your research before visiting, so you visit when it’s open. It has been shut a lot recently because of the COVID restrictions but is now open again.

Cairns is a fantastic place to go on vacation. There’s so much to do there. If you’re planning a trip to the city, then do your research first and find out which locations are best. This post features some of them. However, there are many more. The ones you can see here are definitely the best but are only the tip of the iceberg. Something to consider is hiring a tour guide to show you around the city. A tour guide will be able to take you to everything that’s worth seeing that was missed from this list.
