The Strand in Townsville is home to many restaurants and cafes as well as being a great place to stay with plenty of great holiday accommodation situated along its length. The Strand is Townsville’s most popular promenade and features lots of great attractions for all the family. A wide path along its full length provides a fantastic venue for joggers, skaters, and walkers. It follows the waterfront from the marina right through to the rock pool which is a distance of over two kilometers. Views over the Coral Sea to Magnetic Island enhance its holiday atmosphere. Along its length, the council has constructed many attractions and activities. The kids all love the fantastic water park which is free and provides the ideal place to cool off. There is also an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a large tidal rock pool. The beaches are patrolled by lifeguards and stinger nets protect you from marine jellyfish. There is a pier with fish cleaning facilities and stainless steel barbeques together with shade huts and tables. The council has also constructed some exercise equipment which is located in different places along the pathway.
Like the Palmer street precinct, there are several great dining choices in restaurants and cafes along the Strand and in nearby side streets like Gregory Street. On the ocean side of the Strand is the CBar and across the road is Juliet’s gelato bar and café. Next door to Julietes is the Coffee Club. Gregory Street has a huge choice of cafes and restaurants and is a popular place for breakfast or lunch. There is also a hotel and a tavern on the Strand.
The Strand is a great place to stay, with lots to see and do and plenty of excellent oceanfront accommodation and there will be specials at resorts and apartments located along its length.
