Townsville’s Palmer Street is fast becoming the city’s hub for accommodation and dining. Over the last decade or so, a number of new apartment projects with ground floor commercial areas have seen Palmer Street grow to a point where, today, both sides of the street are lined with busy restaurants and cafes and high rise apartment blocks tower overhead.
Palmer Street is located on the south side of the Ross Creek inlet which runs parallel to the older city CBD which is now a pedestrian mall. This region is now the centre of a tourism boom in Townsville with fantastic attractions like the maritime museum and the Reef HQ aquarium complex all within walking distance. It is also quite close to the Strand. The Ross creek marina is filled with local boats and all the new apartments enjoy views over the marina itself. The Townsville motor boat and yacht club is also located here and provides a fantastic waterfront venue for lunch or a coffee. The vehicle terminal for trips to Magnetic Island, which lies just offshore, is also located in this precinct.
Some of the dining venues in Palmer Street or nearby include Momo’s restaurant, Cactus Jacks restaurant, White Blue restaurant, Benny’s restaurant and Hogs Breath café. Accommodation here is provided by Oaks apartments, Rydge’s hotels, Grand Mercure, and Quest serviced apartments. The Palmer Street precinct is also located close to the V8 race track. This is probably the best place in the CBD to find accommodation and certainly the place to be seen if you are dining out in Townsville.
Palmer Street provides everything you will need in holiday or corporate accommodation and a host of fine restaurants to choose from.
